Believe it or not spring is indeed here. Despite the challenging times we have faced we can embrace the season and use a fresh start to our advantage. Nearly everyone associates spring cleaning with clearing out your physical space. But this spring, I challenge you to go one step further and clean out your mind and emotional space too. I know this can be difficult, so I’ve put together 5 tips for spring cleaning your mind for a more positive and productive year!
Cultivate some time to internally assess what you need to let go of
Take inventory of what you’re holding onto that isn’t propelling you forward to a better life. Make space for the positive by letting go of a grudge, forgiving yourself for some perceived flaw or mistake, or speaking your mind on something you’ve been holding inside.
Take steps to disconnect from technology and some of the negativity it brings
Take some of the time you spend on social media comparing yourself to others, whether it’s body or accomplishments, and substitute it with time spent journaling your positive attributes. Not only is this an introspective exercise that helps you to make emotional space for growth, it is an easy way to remind yourself that you are enough and you are worthy.
Make a conscious effort to make positive changes for your body and your mind will follow
Making simple lifestyle adjustments can lead to big positive changes in your mindset. Try making dedicated time to take care of your body i.e. drink more water, eat 1 serving of fruits/veggies, or sign up for a workout class. The connection between the health of your body and the health of your mind will astound you. For instance, the endorphins released during exercise can help clear the mind and bring new focus to your life for Spring!
Organize your tasks, your stressors and your schedule on paper so you can get it out of your mind space
Instead of obsessing about all of the projects you have to complete, write them down, prioritize them and make a plan to complete them. The simple act of putting pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard if you prefer, can help remove these thoughts from the endless loop in your mind and make room for solutions, new ideas, and creativity.
Take the newfound space in your mind and fill it with a new project or goal
You’ve done the work of decluttering your mind, so now it’s time to fill that space with something that moves you forward! Nourish and cultivate your healthy, decluttered mind this season with a structured plan to achieve a goal, no matter how big or small.
Spring is all about rebirth, renewal and fresh starts. Lets make like mother nature and do some self renewal this season <3
